LIFE
by Jerry Stitt

Life is so funny that it makes you cry,
When you find the answer to the question, Why?
Seeing what is and what should be,
Is it an illusion, or is it really me?

'Life is what you make it,' or so they say,
Trying to live from day to day.
Treating yourself as you would treat others,
But how many of those do you treat as brothers.

We're like grains of sand on an unlimitless beach,
Realizing what is and is not in our reach.
Cheating and stealing to reach our goals,
Until we find we've lost our souls.

Greed clouds our eyes with a sickening blindness,
Blocking out simple truths like love and kindness.
Life is a game that we all try to play,
In the end it is only ourselves that we really betray.
