TV NEWS REPORT
by
Catherine Dix Bonham

Consider the slim bonde TV reporter's
clothing,

the style, colors blended, flawless
complexion,

perfect teeth air brushed to
perfection,

and the last minute dabs of powder applied
by skillful technicians.

One swift electronic move, and her
beauty

flashes cross-country until she appears

side by side her handsome traveling
colleague`s

off-shore assignment, his familiar smooth
hair piece

hiding baldness.

He straightens his jet-set necktie. She
smiles.

Consider the mascara that widens eye
contact

into the cameras straight into millions
of homes,

their unblemished lips gently minimizing
the words:

"war" "terror" "killer" "horror"

"suicide" "bombs" "people in a boxcar"
"dead"

"stay with us", they urge.

Self-composed, gazing amiably into a
TV-land

of fumbling nations, perfect unblemished
young lips

market the world`s top-rated
news.
